About Nusori, Inc.

Nusori, Inc. is a newly formed production company that produces musical recordings and sponsors educational programs that focus on the culture and traditions of Africa and the Africa Diaspora. Nusori’s first project is a recording of Yoruba/Lucumi traditional religious music by Iyalorisa Amma McKen.

The Company

The company is led and founded by Beverly Asieduwa Collier and Amma McKen.

Ms. Collier has a MBA in management and 20 years of experience as a manager in non profit management.  Ms. Collier has a proven expertise in fiscal management, program design, implementation, management and evaluation.

Amma is one of the most popular apons, a singer of ceremonial Yoruba traditional music, in the United States.  Amma who started singing in 1972, is also an experienced dancer, tie dye artist and the owner of Abeokuta Enterprises, a textile and apparel design company.  

 

Cultural Educational Programs

Workshops, Artist in Residences and Lecture Demonstrations

Amma McKen and Omiyesa offer a wide range of workshops in Afro-Cuban and Orisa song, dance and music from single session programs and lecture demonstrations to long term residencies. The curriculums for the workshops vary for grades kindergarten through 12th grade, college level, adult learners but are all centered in developing an understanding of the cultural context for African music and dance.

Apprenticeships
Amma McKen offers master artist apprenticeships for individuals and/or groups who interested in an intensive study of Orisa song and dance. Apprenticeships are designed and customized to meet the level and desired study objectives of the individual and/or group.

Cultural Assemblies
Assemblies for all age groups are offer throughout the school year. Assemblies can be tied into residences and/or in class workshops. Assemblies are participatory and introduce songs, music, dance and instruments to the students and teachers.

Main stage Performances and Tours
Amma McKen and Omiyesa offer authentic and culturally based performances grounded in African aesthetic dance forms and music. These performances include commissioned choreography and music by traditional and seasoned artists, choreographers, and musicians.
